Some great tips from Claire de Gruchy of Developmental Education Programmes. Claire works out individual Reflex Exercises to help children with reading, writing and listening difficulties. The following 3 tips can help release a child’s ideas and help them to understand instructions more easily:
1) Squeezing a soft ball or Play dough in their hands can stimulate the brain allowing speech and ideas to flow more.
2) When giving instructions look at your child and keep the instructions simple, such as “please go to your school bag and bring me your lunch box”.
3) And, before doing a writing exercise, let the child chat about it, you write down in brief what they say and they complete the exercise with those written ideas in front of them.
